Introduction

This past weekend a group travelled to Kalamazoo, MI to compete at USA Wrestling's Central Regional. These regionals are open events where the top 4 placers qualify for Cadet and Junior Nationals in Fargo. Freestyle was wrestled on Saturday and Greco on Sunday.

Freestyle

The Freestyle tournament, which resulted in six Fargo qualifiers, was highlighted by championships from a pair of freshmen: Matt Ramos (100) and Baylor Fernandes (152). Both of the champions won all of their matches by fall or by technical superiority (tech fall; 10 points more than your opponent). Four others placed in the top four at their weights, thereby qualifying for Fargo. Sophomore Yousif Salah took 2nd at 182 in the Cadet division. In the Junior division, we had three athletes, all juniors in high school, qualify. Brandon Ramos took 4th at 132, Abdullah Assaf took 4th at 145, and Trevell Timmons took 2nd at 170. Greco Roman

The Greco Roman competition did not produce any champions, but with seven competitors, we had four individuals place in the top four. All four qualifiers came from the Cadet division. Sophomore Yousif Salah had our best finish in Greco, taking 2nd at 182. Freshman Matt Ramos, wrestling at 100 pounds, and Anthony Molton, wrestling at 106, each finished in 3rd place. Another freshman, Jake Lukazsczyk, finished in 4th place at 113. Full results are below.
