Summary

The 5th ranked Lockport Porters wrestling team rebounded strong from a rough start, winning 10 of 14 weights to defeat Lincoln-Way East on Thursday night.  Lockport, coming off of the POWERade and gearing up for the Cheesehead tomorrow and Saturday, had a slightly adjusted lineup, adding an extra level of interest to the dual.

The dual did not start well for Lockport, who found themselves in an early 18-0 hole.  Mike Scurlock, who wrestled at 160 earlier this season, jumped up to 182 for Lockport and lost by fall.  A forfeit at 195 followed, and Dan Stojsavljevic also lost by fall at 220 pounds.

Lockport had a quick turn of fortune, however, rattling off four straight wins, beginning with a well anticipated matchup between honorable mention heavyweights Sam Diehl and Lockport's Ronald Tucker (who was just named the Chicago Tribune's Wrestler of the Week).  Tucker came out on top of a 1-0 match, notching an escape in the second period for the only point of the match.

Anthony Molton and Matt Kronsbein each received forfeits at 106 and 113, respectively, bringing the team score to 18-15, still in Lincoln-Way's favor.  Garrett Golob took the mat for Lockport at 120 tonight, and scored himself a 7-2 decision to tie the dual at 18-18.

In the most anticipated match of the night, HM Brandon Ramos, coming off of a 5th place finish at POWERade, took on Lincoln-Way East's 7th ranked Jason Stokes.  Ramos, unfortunately, was unable to generate any offense, and dropped a 5-0 decision.

Lockport would go on to win the next five matches and cement the dual.  Brendan Ramsey picked up a major decision at 132, while Dalton Dwyer made the most of another varsity match this season, winning 3-2 at 138.  Baylor Fernandes, bumping from 138 to 145 for the dual, notched a second period pin to give Lockport a 31-21 lead.  Zach Reese sealed the victory for the Porters with his third period fall at 152, while Trevell Timmons, bumping up to 160 for this dual, scored a second period fall of his own.

The night ended on a tough note for the Porters, however.  Nick Dado, wrestling at 170, had a back and forth match with Lincoln-Way East's Nick Mihaljovich for three periods.  Tied at 8-8 after six minutes of wrestling, they headed into overtime, where Dado gave up a takedown in the first overtime period, dropping the match 10-8.

Lockport will be competing in the Cheesehead Tournament in Kaukana, Wisconsin, on Friday evening and all day Saturday.  Click here to check our twitter for updates throughout the tournament.
