Preview: Week of 1/25/2016

This week... Varsity has nothing.  This is a practice/recovery week for Varsity, with no competition again until Regionals on February 6th, at Lockport.

JV, on the other hand, has the two-day JV conference tournament this Friday evening and all day Saturday at Lincoln-Way Central.  Wrestling starts at 6pm Friday and 9am Saturday if you want to go show them your support.

Recap of Our Week

This week was all about the SWSC Conference Tournament for the varsity squad - or half of it.  Illness and injury meant that 2 weight classes weren't represented, and our backups wrestled in six of the twelve weights we competed in.  (I use the term "backup" loosely as well, given that several of our non-starting wrestlers would start at most schools, and that a couple of them also placed).  For a full recap, including some photos, click here for the Conference Recap.

Alumni Recap

Brad Johnson (University of Oklahoma): 0-1 on the week, dropping a close 3-2 decision to Iowa State's Marcus Harrington.

Shaun'Qae McMurtry (Northern Illinois University): 0-1 this week, dropping a 4-2 decision to Ohio University's Austin Reese.

Brian Rossi (Stanford University): Wrestling up a weight class at 133 this week, Rossi posted a 1-1 record.  He lost to West Virginia's Keegan Moore by a 5-3 decision, but picked up a 7-1 win over Arizona State's Cord Coronodo.

Eric Dietz (Grand Valley State University): Competing in the NWCA National Duals, where the GVSU squad placed second, Dietz posted a 2-2 record.  Dietz, #3 in the NWCA at 184, won by fall over Auburn University's Jeff Hurley in the pool round, before falling to #9 Cody Chaney of Emmanuel College in the quarterfinals.  Dietz bounced back, defeating #2 Taylor Westlake of Liberty University, 3-2.  In the finals, Dietz lost by fall to top ranked Chandler Dobler of the University of Central Florida.
