Summary
Thursday night's meet against Joliet Central was senior night - it was the last regular home dual of the 2015-2016 season for Lockport. The Porters sent the seniors off well, defeating Joliet Central by a final score of 64-10.
First things first, the seniors. Five seniors were honored at the meet last night. They include Shayne Oster, George Wolfe, Kevin Giroux, Ethan Maurella, and stat girl Carolyn Dietz. Congratulations to each of them on their time in the program, even though we're not quite done yet!
With none of the seniors actually wrestling in a varsity match, the team did them proud and won a decisive victory over Joliet Central, 64-10. The dual began at 152, and Lockport never trailed during the meet. Joliet Central also forfeitted five weights - giving Lockport 30 points over the course of the dual. George Wolfe (152), Ronald Tucker (285), Matt Kronsbein (113), Garrett Golob (120), and Zach Reese (145) each received forfeits.
In the 9 contested matches, Lockport went 7-2, collecting bonus points in five of their wins. Matt Ramos (106), Brandon Ramos (126), Dalton Dwyer (132), and Baylor Fernandes (138) each picked up wins by fall. Trevell Timmons (160) won by a 17-4 major decision, while Nick Dado (170) won 9-5.
Lockport's two losses came at 182 and 195. At 182, a severely undersized Mike Scurlock lost by a 15-2 major decision. At 195, Austin Atwood lost an overtime heartbreaker, after giving up a match-tying takedown with 1.5 seconds left in regulation just to put it into overtime. Those, however, were the only blemishes on the day.
For our seniors who competed, we had mixed results. Giroux won a controlled victory over his opponent on the JV mat, while Maurella battled well but was thrown to his back in the third period by an opponent roughly one foot taller than him.
