Shayne Oster is entering his senior year with one less thought on his mind. As we start the season on Monday Shayne has verbally committed to continue his academic and wrestling career at Northwestern University in Evanston.
Shayne chose Northwestern over Stanford University, University of Michigan and North Carolina State University.
Shayne said of the recruiting process. "The recruiting process was a great experience for me. It allowed me to see the different methodologies employed by college programs and decide which was the right fit for me. I was fortunate enough to visit some of the greatest universities in the country and learn about what makes them special. Being able to see such a wide range of schools helped me to decide where I would like to spend the next five years of my life. It's important to explore all your opportunities because this decision affects the rest of your life."
When asked why Northwestern Shayne added. "A lot of different factors went into my decision to choose Northwestern. First and foremost was the fact that I would receive a world-class education which would prepare me for life after college. I believe that the wrestling program at Northwestern is a perfect fit for me because we have a similar approach to training. They are very serious about working hard and improving everyday, but they also know that sometimes athletes need a break from the grind in order to recover. They also know the importance of having fun as well as working hard. Another major factor for me was staying close to home and my family. My family has always been very close so the fact that they can come and see me wrestle often is very important to me. Ultimately the decision came down to the feeling I got when I was on campus. It just felt like the right place for me to spend the next five years of my life as well as to set me up for the fifty years of my life."
Shayne has a career record of 117-28 and has been a 3x State Qualifier and 2x Placer, placing 3rd as a Sophomore at 126 lbs. and a State Champion as a Junior at 138 lbs. Shayne is currently 11th All-time in Career wins at Lockport needing 43 wins this year to top his former drill partner Brian Rossi for the record.
Shayne is also an accomplished freestyle wrestler having earned 2 All-American finishes in his career and is currently ranked 17th in the Country by Flowrestling.
